what helped me settle down on the PoC and Indigenous questions (for myself) was looking into why it would be necessary for me to ID that way.

and it wasn’t

when I looked into myself and examined who i was and what was central to who i am

it wasn’t being PoC or Indigenous

neither are particularly important to me

(even as I understand their political utility they have no emotional meaning)

[but especially the PoC one. i stopped IDing that way for one person and one person only. because it didn’t mean enough to me to want to hurt her over it. it just didn’t. and it doesn’t]
