i keep seeing this post on my dash

“mayan astronomy & mathematics: how they were more advanced than the europeans”

which cool

i actually have a secret passion for the history of math, esp. as it relates to systems of math in iaopoc cultures

however

the way that this is phrased, still makes whiteness the default measuring stick by which all other cultures must be measured

whiteness is baseline in this statement, this is how we know that mayan math was more advanced.

but…

in all other cases, then, with this white baseline

we can deteremine how other iaopoc systems of math (or whatever else) are less advanced

and so

all things are only meaningful in their relationship to whiteness

just pointing this out as a subtle way that white supremacy creeps into discourse
