one of the reasons why i prefer systems of virtue ethics

is because they essentially result in a situation where no one is perfectly good (and possible perfectly bad)

deontological ethics allow for situations like white christian missionaries

who went all over the world forcibly converting people, ruining cultures, harming people

but, are considered ‘good’ because they were faithfully applying the rules set in front of them

this is also why, today, so many people consider missionaries ‘good’ and the results of their genocidal actions ‘good’

why we get so many clueless fucking white people who just cannot understand why we can never thank them for ‘civilizing’ us.

because within a deontological system of ethics, what those missionaries did was good.

i mean, they brought us closer to god, amirite?
