This link showed up on my trans news feed. And, sure, it starts talking about trans stuff. in the first paragraph, only to spend the rest of the time talking about LGB shit.

I had this whole response planned that somewhat hinged on this actually being about trans people. I’m still going to make that comment. But i fucking hate it when people do this.

Anyway. The point of this article, more or less, is that we are gonna see more and more kids comming out earlier and earlier. Except. What does this even mean?

Especially in light of the injustice at every turn’s report that IaoPoC kids are far more likely to be visibly gender varient in grade school than white kids?

Among study participants, people of color were more likely to report expressing a transgender identity or gender non-conformity at school (Black 52%, Latino/a 57%, Asian 59%, American Indian 56%, Multiracial 63%), than whites (46%).

And that we already have whtie children murdering gender variant PoC kids (Yes. I’m in this paritcular instance talking about Larry King).

SO. I ask this question (especially since all the participants were adults at the time and most were 25+)

is the ‘youth’ of children being out only notable when it is white children?

because. it seems pretty clear that this has been a reality for quite some time. that children are out, visible, and experiencing oppression because of it.

so. yeah. we need to be prepared. but we also need to see and undersand all that ways that we weren’t prepared in the past so that we don’t do the same shit. because training staff and all that to notice and protect white children, when they’ve been consistently failing to do so for IaoPoC kids. isn’t really all that useful.
